On Tuesday, September 25th at the regularly scheduled Board Meeting, the Cajon Valley Union School District (CVUSD) announced the launch of a new program aimed at supporting the District vision of “Happy Kids, Engaged in Healthy Relationships, on a Path to Gainful Employment”. Counselor Tami Johnson shared the launch of “Take a Stand” week at the meeting and provided an update on programs designed to promote the physical, social, and emotional safety and well-being in CVUSD schools.

As a part of Cajon Valley’s ongoing efforts to support the district vision and mission, social-emotional supports have been increased. By providing social-emotional learning (SEL) intentionally and over time, there is the long-lasting impact on students which follows them to their futures. CVUSD began this year with implementing the School Counselor GLO Program and the new World of Work Social Well-being curriculum. In addition, Cajon Valley launched the annual Take A Stand Week at each school.

Take a Stand Week includes daily, engaging activities for youth to increase awareness around harassment, bully prevention and more importantly, how to be an upstander in the community.  As a part of Take a Stand Week, Safa’s Story, a play based on true events in a San Diego native’s life, will be featured at some CVUSD schools to promote inclusion. The program also includes a pilot program to support students who have IEPs who need counseling and guidance as a part of their educational program and goals.

Cajon Valley Union School District is seeing positive results already and getting good feedback from students, parents, and teachers who are receiving this service. All students are welcome and have access to the CVUSD counseling department on each school site. English language learners, Military families, and homeless and foster youth students are supported with additional counseling support and resources.

Because CVUSD has been able to expand our programs, the district is truly creating a welcoming, safe, and caring environment where students can thrive. Visit the district website at www.cajonvalley.net to learn more about all the amazing programs at Cajon Valley Union School District.
