Google to roll out new tech

Google. The search giant holds an event. PT with several announcements expected including two new smartphones — the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P — as well as the next version of its Android operating system Marshmallow,  a new Chromecast and possibly a new family plan for its Google Play Music service, according to Business Insider.google-building-441

Yahoo. Shares were up nearly 4% in early trading Tuesday after news that the company plans to spin off its stake in Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba by the end of the year, regardless of whether the Internal Revenue Service allows the transaction to be tax-free. That’s a sign that Yahoo may be desperate for some good news, said Edison Investment Research analyst Richard Windsor in a note Monday. “To me, this is an indication that there continues to be no progress on the turnaround and therefore substantial pressure to deliver something,” he said.

Amazon. The E-tailing giant had multiple story lines today as shares were down about 1% as the markets opened. Amazon bolstered its Prime Music service by securing Universal Music Group’s artists for unlimited streaming and downloading of tracks. The roster includes Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, Lana Del Rey, Maroon 5, Lorde and Eminem. Elsewhere, Amazon’s Fire HD 10 tablet, out Wednesday, has gotten only passable grades from Forbes, for falling short in terms of performance and resolution compared to competing tablets from Apple and Samsung.

Netflix. The streaming provider now lets newcomers pay for the service within apps on Apple devices, which The Motley Fool suggests, means that Netflix got a discounted deal from Apple. Netflix also secured rights for CBS shows Zoo and Jane the Virgin, as well as the upcoming USA series Colony from Lost executive producer/writer Carlton Cuse.

Comcast. Shares of Comcast NBCUniversal were up more than 1% Tuesday a day after the company announced that it would spend $1.5 billion for a majority stake in the Universal Studios Japan theme park operation.
