By Jove, is Colin Firth returning for a ‘Kingsman’ sequel?

The Colin Firth faithful (the Firthful?) probably cried in their pints a little bit upon seeing their favorite guy and newly minted action hero go down in Kingsman, but at least he died fighting. Or did he?XXX KINGSMAN SECRET SERVICE MOV JY 1744 .JPG A ENT

A pivotal action sequence set in a church finds Firth’s secret agent Harry Hart affected by the inhibition-lifting technology of supervillain Richmond Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson), and Harry pretty much massacres a metric ton of people due to being effectively mind-controlled.

Afterward, though, Valentine shoots him in the head in the parking lot, and a wide shot shows his body crumpling to the ground. We never see the body or a funeral after the good guys save the day, and it might be because director Matthew Vaughn told us he has plans for Firth’s possible return.

Kingsman pulled in an impressive $35 million-plus opening weekend — even against Fifty Shades of Grey — and could have some legs with a lack of cinematic competition plus good reviews and word of mouth. If there is a sequel, bank on Taron Egerton’s young agent Eggsy being in it since Kingsman is essentially his origin story, according to Vaughn.
