Selective Seconds Features on ‘USA Today’ for its Growing Popularity and New Facebook Campaigns

The resale store Selective Seconds, which has launched campaigns on several dedicated Facebook pages, was recently featured in USA Today for the new ways of reaching customers. With the retail industry going through a downturn, customer focus has shifted to consignment and resale stores which offer greater value for money as well as the convenience of online shopping.  A consignment store accepts pre-owned items from individuals and sells them on their behalf for a commission.

The overall resale apparel market is projected to grow to $33 billion by 2021. One of the ways in which this growth will happen is through new ways of reaching customers, such as live Facebook streams and pages. Selective Seconds has taken the lead on this turf with its e-commerce website www.SelectiveSeconds.com, Facebook pages, “Selective Seconds Shoppers Lounge”, “Selective Seconds Consignment”, and “Selective Seconds Resale Bus Tours”.

Based in Indiana, Selective Seconds was founded in 1997 by single mother, Vena Holden.  Vena had to dress professional and affordable and found herself enjoying the hunt for quality clothing. With $1000 to invest, she rented a small commercial zoned-house for $350, bought racks and fixtures at auctions,  and within a year was able to buy the property.  She has continued to grow and network with other successful resale owners through NARTS and ARI.

“We feel proud to have been featured on USA Today. We have been in business for 20 years and value our partnership with consignors. We have adopted cutting-edge technology to help move accepted items quicker,” says Vena Holden, Founder, Selective Seconds.

Selective Seconds accepts items every day.  Suppliers can opt for a cash buyout or wait for their items to sell and get a percentage, which is usually more.  Buyers have four different ways to shop at Selective Seconds:

(1)    At it’s 5,000 sq. ft. physical location at 1140 N. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46142,

(2)    Facebook

(3)    Website

(4)    Instagram

Items that sell well are designer handbags, shoes, tops, perfumes, jewelry and more.

“This business brings people together that truly love resale. It’s a good feeling knowing this business is all about doing good,” says Vena.  Selective Store is not merely about making a great bargain. It goes beyond mere savings and convenience to offer a host of benefits to both buyers and sellers. The store helps in saving money, but also helps people earn extra money from used items that would otherwise lie idle. The store helps in recycling as well, and is a platform for charities and donations. Apart from donating clothing and accessories to non-profits, the store is also available to organizations where they can open accounts and accept donations from the public.  The charity then receives a check each month for their portion, plus Selective Seconds kicks back an additional 10% at the end of the year.

The churn in organized retail has had the upside of bringing to the fore resale stores like Selective Seconds, founded with passion, grit and determination, and now showing the retail sector new ways of selling and marketing their goods.
